CTC Championship Results

The Sacred Heart track & field team took their annual trip to the Collegiate Track Conference Championships over the weekend and chalked up another set team titles. The SHU women won the event for the 11th-straight year while the men took the title for the third-consecutive year and the eighth time in the last 11 years.

The Sacred Heart women bested a field of 19 teams with 171 total points while the men scored 126 points to top a field of 18 teams. The Pioneer women racked up 88 points in the field events and also dominated the heptathlon with three athletes scoring 24 points in the event.

Senior Marsha Locke (Danbury, CT) had a stellar day scoring 32 points in four events. Locke won the shot put and discus throw, finished second in the javelin and fifth in the hammer throw. Locke registered a toss of 48'5.25" in the shot and 131'6" in the discus for medalist honors. Her throw of 123'3" in the javelin came up just four inches shy of winning the event and her throw of 141'10" in the hammer took fifth.

Fellow senior Lenahndem Tankeng (Yonkers, NY) was right on Locke's heels, scoring 24 points in the same four events including a win in the hammer throw. Tankeng bested the field by nearly six feet in the hammer with a throw of 152'01". She took third in both the shot put (42'1.50") and the discus (127'2") and seventh in the javelin (90'6").

In the high jump, sophomore Brittany Dexter (Ballston Lake, NY) picked up another win, clearing a height of 5'5.00". Dexter picked up a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles clocking in at 15.33 seconds.

In the heptathlon, senior Melissa Kotsan (Salem, MA) and Bonnie Kilis (Marlborough, CT) took first and second with senior Brianne Hudak (Corinth, NY) took fourth. Kotsan racked up 4,580 points to Kilis' 4,425. Hudak came in with 4,171 points.
 

 

Sophomore Sarah Tencza (Succasunna, NJ) led the way on the track winning the 1,500-meters. Tencza broke the tape in 4:55.06, seven second in front of the field. Graduate student Anne Duffy (Monroe, CT) finished third in the 5,000-meters with a time of 19:00.97. Freshman Angelica Johnson (Little Ferry, NJ) ran second in the 100-meters (12.65) and third in the 200-meters (26.09).

The men's decathlon saw four Pioneers score points as SHU claimed the top-three spots. Junior Thomas Hyatt (Hopewell Junction, NY) won the event with 6,022 points. Fellow junior Brian Germain (Wallingford, CT) finished second with 5,949 points and sophomore Keith Rowe (Taunton, MA) took third with 5,473 points. Freshman Daniel Galanto (East Hampton, CT) took sixth with 4,215 points.

Junior Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY) took home medalist honors in the 200-meters with a 21.12 clocking. Senior Michael Barrett (Islip Terrace, NY) finished fourth in the 100-meters finishing in 11.36 seconds.

Junior Luis German (Southampton, NY) won the 1,500-meters clocking in at 4:04.10 while fellow junior John Kenworthy (Gloversville, NY) took the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:31.21. Freshman Andrew Houghtalen (West Charlton, NY) finished third (9:59.36) and sophomore Matthew Chorney (Bristol, NH) took fourth (10:09.25).

Junior David Jones (Ballston Lake, NY) took third in the 5,000 meters (15:51.94). In the hammer throw, sophomore Charles Clark (Babylon, NY) finished second with a throw of 148'6". Junior Michael L'Homme (Attleboro, MA) took third in the javelin with a throw of 188'5".
