Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team finished third at the New England Women's Tennis Championships held at Fairfield Univeristy over the weekend. The University of Rhode Island won the championship with 77 points while Fairfield Univeristy placed second with 58. The Pioneers picked up 48 points in the competition.
Senior Jessica Schnell (Schnectady, NY) and freshman Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) each reached the finals of their respective singles brackets. Harrington, playing the number four singles, beat Elise Dufour of Merrimack 6-0, 6-1 in the first round and then topped Dara Hawkins-Hodgson from Providence 7-5, 6-3. She met top seed Christen Cadigan from Rhode Island in the final and lost 6-1, 7-5.
In the number five singles bracket, Schnell beat Fairfield's Courtney Price 6-2, 6-2 and then topped Ayushi Sinha from Providence, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round. Top seed Brooke Hooever stopped Schnell's run in the championship, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Sophomore Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) placed fifth in the number one singles bracket while Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) took home third place in the second singles flight. Juniors Nicole Betz (Long Beach, NY) and Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) each placed fifth in their respective singles action.

In doubles action, Demers and Betz finished third, as did Kasinow and Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) in the second bracket. Britany Price (Meriden, CT) and Finkelstein placed fifth in the third doubles bracket.
