Final Stats

Fairfield, CT - Sophomore Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) and freshmen Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) and Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) all won three matches to lead the Sacred Heart women's tennis team to victories over Fairfield Univeristy and St. Peter's over the weekend. SHU beat Fairfield 4-3 and then downed St. Peter's by a score of 5-2.

In the Fairfield match, the Pioneers lost all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. However, Kasinow got SHU off to a strong start with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Paulina Rys in number one singles. Demers won her match 6-2, 6-3 at third singles and was followed by Harrington who posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number four. Senior Jessica Schnell (Schnectady, NY) clinched the match for the Pioneers with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Fairfield's Caitlin Savoy.

Against St. Peter's Kasinow and Demers teamed up to win the number one doubles match. After Harrington and senior Britany Price (Meriden, CT) posted an 8-5 in third doubles, the Pioneers had a 1-0 lead. SHU took the first four singles matches to win the match behind straight set victories from Kasinow, Demers, Harrington and Schnell. The two wins improved the Pioneers dual match record to 5-1 on the year.

On the men's side the Pioneers lost a 5-2 decision to Fairfield and dropped a tough match to St. Peter's by a 4-3 score. Freshman Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) went 4-0 on the weekend for the Pioneers, winning two singles matches and two doubles matches. Sophomore Jinal Shah (Mombasa, Kenya) was the only other Pioneer to win two matches, as he took home victories in doubles against St. Peter's and singles against Fairfield.
