WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth's Andrea Lopez scored the only goal of the game at the 13:58 mark to lead the top-seeded Hawks to a 1-0 win over #3 seed Sacred Heart University in the Championship Game of the Northeast Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon.

The best chance for the Pioneers to tie it came early in the second half when junior Britney Dupee (Portland, ME) had a good look, but her shot sailed just wide of the Monmouth goal.

Sacred Heart, which was outshot 11-3 in the game, finishes the year at 5-12-4. The Pioneers had won three straight games, and five of the last six in conference, to reach the title game. It was te seventh straigh appearance in the playoffs for the Pioneers.

Monmouth won its first NEC title since 1996 and will now advance to the NCAA playoffs with a 12-4-4 record.
