2008 Northeast Conference Championship Final Results

DADE CITY, Fla. (April 27, 2008) - The Sacred Heart women's golf team finished second overall at the 2008 Northeast Conference Championship at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club, the best-ever finish in program history. The Pioneers finished two-strokes behind winner Fairliegh Dickinson after shooting a three-day total of 986, their best-ever score at the event.

The Pioneers were led by junior Jennifer Tierney (Danbury, CT) and senior Lauren Foster (Newington, CT) who both claimed NEC All-Conference honors with top-10 finishes.

Tierney and Foster both finished tied for 7th place in the 48 golfer field, each shooting a score of 246. Foster shot a team-best score of 81 on Sunday to climb her way into the top-10. Tierney shot and 83 over the final 18 holes as both were just three stroke out of a top-five finish.

Junior Joanne Martorana (Randolph, NJ) fired a team low 78 on Friday but struggled yesterday carding a 91. Martorana bounced back on Sunday to shoot 84 and finish tied for 13th overall. Junior Jillian Nery (New Bedford, MA) fiishe dup 18th with a three-day total of 255 (81-86-88) while senior Patricia Heyes (Durobin, Ontario) finished 23rd but improved each round. Heyes shot 94 in her first round, knocked 11 storkes off for a round two 83 and fired and 82 on Sunday.
 

 

The Pioneers played the champion Knights stroke for stroke over the final two rounds, each shooting 330 both Saturday and Sunday. Saint Francis (PA) posted the low round on Sunday with a team score of 324 to take third.
