In the past five years, Michael Giaquinto, Director of Pioneer Golf / Men's Head Coach, has taken the Pioneer golf program and made it the model for all Division I golf programs in the Northeast. Giaquinto, a keen fund-raiser, is a big picture coach who has a focus on high standards both on and off the golf course. He takes the term student-athlete very seriously recognizing that golf is only a piece of the puzzle in the college experience. This off-season Giaquinto teamed with women's head coach Jamie Romeo to lay the foundation for a golf program, on both the men's and women's side, that would be one of the premier golf programs around. They took a step in the right direction as they restructured the organization of the two programs. Giaquinto has assumed additional responsibilities as Director of Golf in addition to his coaching duties. He has also added Romeo as Director of Golf Operations/Women's Head Coach, Tom Rosati as Director of Instruction and Jeff Cavaliere as the teams Strength and Conditioning coach. Giaquinto, who also serves as Director of Facilities Management and Construction for the University, is a Fairfield resident and lives with his only son, Michael Jr. Giaquinto. As a low handicap competitor, Giaquinto has a passion for golf and has participated at the local state and national levels as an amateur player and calls Great River his home course. He has taken a an active role in local and national Junior Golf programs over the past ten years and was instrumental in bring an AJGA tournament to Fairfield County. He was the tournament chairman two consecutive years for the Lessings AJGA Junior held at the Patterson Club.
